Andy Robertson has warned Liverpool will need to raise their game against Paris Saint-Germain.
Tuesday’s Anfield encounter sees Arne Slot’s side defending a slender lead after claiming a 1-0 win in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 showdown.
Alisson proved the difference for the Reds at the Parc des Princes with a string of saves to deny the hosts’ onslaught either side of a late winner by Harvey Elliott.
But Robertson insists that the Premier League leaders cannot risk a repeat display against Les Parisiens, whom he rates as one of his sternest opponents to date.
He said: “It’s going to be a tough game.
“They showed how good they can be, an exceptional team – probably the best we have played this season.
We have got the lead, which is important.
“But we can obviously play better than we did on Wednesday, that’s clear and we will have to play better as we can’t rely on Alisson playing the game of his life every game.
“We have to be better, we have to be better without the ball and if we do that hopefully the crowd can be behind us, as we know what they can be like on Champions League nights.
“The aim is to get through but we have to play a lot better than we did in the first half today and the whole 90 minutes over there.”
Both teams approached their upcoming showdown in contrasting fashion with Slot deploying a strong line-up as Liverpool had to dig deep to overcome Southampton.
PSG, meanwhile, were able to rest eight of the players that started their first leg clash in a 4-1 win over Rennes despite boasting a similar margin in their title race.
“The league is more competitive than the French league – that’s no disrespect to the French league,” said Robertson.
“We have to keep going, there is no easy game in the Premier League.
That’s two games now we have struggled against Southampton who are bottom of the league.
“You can’t take any team lightly.
