Keane spent three years at Nottingham Forest, where the youngster started to make a name for himself and grab the attention of some big clubs in the world at the time.
Transfer speculation back then had Keane linked to Real Madrid, Blackburn and even Liverpool with the midfielder valued at £5m .
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports about the rumours, Keane batted them off, before labelling Forest as the “best club in England”.
“My position is simple.
I’m trying to play well, simple as that.”
Keane would move to Man United in 1993 as part of £3.75m deal but it leaves Liverpool fans wondering what could have been had the Irishman made the switch to Anfield.
Heading into the 1993/94 campaign Liverpool’s central midfielders where Jan Molby, Ronnie Whelan and Jamie Redknapp, while Nigel Clough and Don Hutchison played as more attack-minded central players.
It is fair to say that Keane was better than all five stars and his influence at Man United was immediately felt as the Red Devils won the Premier League that season, while Liverpool came eight.
A midfield four of Steve McManaman, Roy Keane, Jan Molby and John Barnes sounds pretty good on paper and many fans of the Merseyside club would have loved to have seen them in action together at Anfield.
Keane may have even made into Jamie Carragher’s five-a-side dream team had he made the switch to Merseyside in 1993, however, that was never to be, with the Irishman forging out an incredible legacy at the Reds’ biggest rivals instead.
