Manchester United have been urged to make history - by signing Liverpool’s misfiring striker Darwin Nunez.

According to Treble-winning former Old Trafford hit-man Dwight Yorke, the Reds should try to tempt their biggest rivals into selling them the Uruguayan international in the summer.

The last player to move between the two clubs was Phil Chisnall, who left United to sign for Liverpool in a £25,000 deal in April 1964.

Now Yorke wants Nunez to bridge the 61-year gap by becoming the man to bring goals to Ruben Amorim’s team.

Yorke said: "I would be brave and take a look at Nunez - if Liverpool make him available.

You’re not going to get Alexander Isak.

"Nunez could be on the market if Liverpool look to bring in a forward this summer.

If they’re going to offload Nunez, I will tell United to take a serious look at him."

Nunez could be available at the end of the season after having his head turned by interest from the Saudi Pro League last month.

Yorke believes Nunez would give United a physical presence up front that has "swagger".
