Ryan Gravenberch has revealed the reason for Liverpool’s recent struggles that has seen them concede first in their last two league games.
After an impeccable first half of the season, the Reds seem to be struggling recently in the Premier League, failing to win their last two league games.
Those games saw Liverpool concede first, bringing the total number of times their opponent have scored first this season to eight games.
The slow start has been particularly felt in the last one month, with Liverpool now keeping just four clean sheets in 12 games played since December 1.
This is a far cry from their return of four clean sheets in their opening four games under Arne Slot.
Having snatched a point from a losing position in their last league outing, the Reds will travel to Brentford looking to avoid another poor outing that will reduce their lead at the top.
Ahead of the game at Gtech Community Stadium, midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who has played almost every minute for Liverpool in the Premier League, was asked about the reason for the club’s slow start, and he offered to explain.
What Ryan Gravenberch said
Speaking to the club’s official website, the Dutchman revealed that Liverpool’s lack of intensity in the first half is the reason for their slow start.
“It’s just the intensity what we give [and] I think also when we look at it back, it’s just the intensity in pressing and making the deep runs etc,” the Netherlands midfielder explained.
“It’s just that, and we have to give that always from the start, and then it will change, for sure.”
Gravenberch struggled fro game time last season.
But this season, he has established himself as a regular fixture at the base of Liverpool’s midfield and has already played around 500 minutes more for the club this season than he did in 2023-24.
Asked how he is keeping himself fit and fresh during a physically demanding season, the 22-year-old said:
“I just want to give everything when I am on the pitch?
I want to show myself every day and also I just look after my body well, in terms of recovery I do everything, so I am really happy with the minutes that I have now and that I can show myself to everyone.
“You want to give everything, and at the end, titles are decided at the end of the season, so you have to stay fit and give everything.”
