Balancing arrivals with potential departures will be critical for Liverpool’s stability.
But for one man, the transfer season has already started, with former Liverpool winger Ryan Kent having been officially announced in the MLS.
Ryan Kent joined Liverpool’s academy at the age of seven and was considered one of the club’s most promising young talents.
After progressing through the youth ranks, he made his senior debut in 2016 during an FA Cup tie against Exeter City.
After six loan spells away from Liverpool—including stints at Coventry, Barnsley, and Bristol City—Kent secured a permanent transfer to Rangers in September 2019 for £6.5 million.
In June 2023, Kent signed a four-year deal with Turkish giants Fenerbahçe.
Despite early optimism, his time in Istanbul quickly unraveled.
Limited to just 19 appearances and one goal in all competitions, Kent fell entirely out of favor under José Mourinho, who took charge in June 2024.
And now, after five months as a free agent, Kent has signed with the Seattle Sounders on a one-year contract with a 2026 option.
In statement on 31 March, the Sounders confirmed the deal:
“Sounders FC today announced that it has signed English winger Ryan Kent for the remainder of the 2025 season, with a club option for 2026.
The 28-year-old joins the Rave Green after 10 professional seasons in Europe, tallying over 300 appearances across all competitions in England, Germany, Scotland and Turkey.”
Having not played competitively since July 2024, it’s fair to say that Kent may be a bit rusty.
But it has not put off the MLS side in the slightest:
“We’re thrilled to welcome Ryan Kent to Seattle and add him to our existing group this season,” said Sounders FC General Manager & Chief Soccer Officer Craig Waibel.
“Ryan is a dynamic winger with top-level experience who brings pace, creativity and a dangerous attacking threat?
