Serie A president Ezio Simonelli has revealed ongoing talks with the Premier League to effect a major change to the summer transfer window.

The transfer window has been a major part of the Premier League since its formation.

Teams often use these opportunities to strengthen their squads and sometimes weaken those of their rivals.

However, Liverpool has been one of the least active clubs over the last two transfer windows.

Federico Chiesa and Girogi Mamardashvili are the only senior players that Liverpool have signed this season, with no additions in the winter despite links with several players.

But reports have it that the Reds have serious plans to strengthen this summer.

The likes of Darwin Nunez, Joe Gomez, Federico Chiesa and Diogo Jota could leave, while the futures of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk is still to be decided.

This means that there will be a need for reinforcements and replacements in the summer.

However, how transfer business is done in the coming window could be tweaked.

Last month, The Telegraph reported that the Premier League is considering making substantial changes to the current transfer window model, which runs for about two months in the summer and a month in the winter.

Per the report, English top-flight clubs are considering reducing the number of months in the window in a bid to make clubs conclude deals before the season begins.

The last time the Premier League trialled a shortened window was in the 2018 and 2019 seasons, with English clubs concluding their deals before the season started.

Although that model caused a major disruption among teams and was ultimately abandoned because other European leagues kept their window open until the end of August, Serie A president Ezio Simonelli has confirmed that he and his Premier League counterparts are again trying to seek change ahead of summer 2025.

“On March 6, there will be an assembly in Frankfurt to nominate the new president of the European Leagues,” he said in a press conference.

“It will be an important step where we will go to represent the Italian League.

There is a theme that unites us with some leagues, which is the closure of the transfer market.

“I met with the heads of the Premier League and La Liga.
