Tottenham are reportedly likely to sack Ange Postecoglou regardless of how they perform in Europe this season.
Spurs are enduring one of their worst seasons domestically, but are flying high in Europe.
The North London side are currently sitting in 16th place, after winning just 37 points from 33 games.
However, they are in the last four of the Europa League.
Winning the Europa League title will automatically qualify them for the Champions League next season, but even that may not be enough to save Postecoglou.
It is safe to say that had the trio of Southampton, Leicester City, and Ipswich Town put up a braver relegation fight, Spurs would have been in a battle for survival this season.
Under Postecoglou, Tottenham are on the brink of breaking several negative club records, including suffering the most league defeats in a season.
They are currently on 18 defeats this season, and they could equal the record for most losses in a season set by Ossie Ardiles in the 1993/94 season should they lose to Liverpool at the weekend.
Liverpool host Postecoglou’s side this Sunday, and a loss would secure Liverpool the Premier League title, while it could mean Spurs drop down to 17th place.
However, ahead of the weekend meeting at Anfield, a fresh report has revealed that Postecoglou is on the brink at Tottenham.
According to The Telegraph’s Matt Law, Postecoglou is heading towards the Tottenham Hotspur exit, whether his team win the Europa League or not.
The North London club are reportedly set to make some changes at the management level, and the Australian could be one of the casualties regardless of the outcome of their Europa League journey.
The club’s chief football officer, Scott Munn, is set to leave this summer, and Tottenham have already confirmed the appointment of former Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham.
However, while Postecoglou could leave the club this summer, successes in Europe may mean that rather than being sacked, he would be allowed to leave mutually.
“Lifting the trophy and maintaining his record of winning silverware in his second season at clubs would give Postecoglou the opportunity to leave – possibly mutually – with his head held high and having delivered on his promises of changing the playing style and achieving success.”
