There is no shortage of news and chatter around Martin Zubimendi these days.
It’s been about seven months since the Spanish midfielder’s name became linked with a move to Liverpool.
The Reds were keen on bringing him in the summer but he decided against leaving his boyhood club for the season.
Despite Liverpool’s willingness to activate his €60 million release clause, Zubimendi decided to remain in San Sebastián, a decision that has sparked debate among fans and pundits alike.
But although they missed out on him in the summer, Liverpool were thought to be still interested in the midfielder and would have jumped at the opportunity to sign him had the opportunity arisen.
However, in recent days, fellow Premier League side Arsenal have reportedly moved ahead in the race for Zubimendi.
According to reliable journalist Sami Mokbel, Arsenal’s deal to sign Zubimendi is ‘virtually complete’.
Writing for Daily Mail, the journalist said: “Arsenal will land long-term target Martin Zubimendi at the end of the season.”
“The Real Sociedad star has been courted by Mikel Arteta for over 12 months and talks over a summer move are now at an advanced stage with sources indicating the deal is virtually completed.”
The Athletic’s David Ornstein also followed up the report, confirming that Arsenal’s interest in Martin Zubimendi is concrete.
However, as it happened in the summer when Zubimendi was linked to Liverpool, the saga has taken a new twist, with Sky Germany now reporting a Bundesliga club is also in the race for the 25-year-old.
The latest update on Martin Zubimendi
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Bundesliga side Bayern Munich are monitoring Zubimendi’s situation in Real Sociedad.
Per the journalist, while Arsenal are showing concrete interest in Zubimendi, Bayern, as well as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool, are monitoring the situation as Sociedad are unwilling to lower their asking price for the 25-year-old.
“FC Bayern have continued to monitor Martin Zubimendi, while Arsenal are showing very concrete interest and pushing a lot to sign him next summer,” the Sky Sports journalist reported.
“Zubimendi’s release clause in the summer is set at €60 million?
Real Sociedad are unwilling to negotiate, and the 25-year-old Spaniard will not be available for a lower price.
“Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Liverpool are also keeping a close eye on the situation.”
