Liverpool failed to reclaim their Carabao Cup title as Newcastle United became the new winners of the competition.
Eddie Howe’s side were the better team from minute one as the Magpies were relentless against the Reds, with Dan Burn giving Newcastle the lead before rumoured Liverpool target Alexander Isak secured the win for the Toon.
With Mohamed Salah criticised for his performance for Liverpool, it was a night to forget for the Anfield side, who will now be focused on wrapping up the Premier League title as quickly as possible with nine games left to play.
Yet despite the result and the performance, Howe still praised Liverpool for what he saw from the Merseyside giants at Wembley today.

Speaking to the press after the win, the former AFC Bournemouth manager lauded Liverpool for how they conducted themselves against Newcastle, with Howe saying: “Liverpool were class today, that speaks volumes of them as a football club.”
Howe hailed Liverpool earlier in the season after Newcastle’s Premier League clash with the Reds, with the English manager clearly a big fan of the Anfield side and the direction Arne Slot has taken the club since joining last summer.
Indeed, the Dutch manager has been a revelation at Liverpool since succeeding Jurgen Klopp, with Slot on course to win only the second Premier League title ever for the Reds having taken a 15-point lead in the standings.
Yet today’s Carabao Cup defeat will sting for the former Feyenoord manager, with Slot now losing his third cup final in four attempts during his coaching career, a pattern that could become a worry for the Reds.
