Liverpool fans are looking forward to getting a new kit supplier at the end of the 2024/25 season.

The Reds have been kitted out with Nike ever since the American brand took over from New Balance in 2020.

However, Nike’s offerings have been relatively lukewarm for Liverpool.

The era of Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso and many more was earmarked by the brand.

Torres in particular grew to be an icon at Liverpool before breaking hearts by joining Chelsea in 2011.

Having since reconciled with the club he became a superstar at, Torres has now looked back on some of his favourite Liverpool kits.

Although Torres was ultimately only a Liverpool player for three-and-a-half years, the Spaniard really captured the imagination of the Reds fanbase.

Alan Shearer may have felt that Ruud van Nistelrooy was better than Torres, but to Liverpool supporters, El Nino was the business.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

The mere mention of his name evokes a strong mental image of the blonde highlights, hair-band, Nike Total 90’s and an Adidas Liverpool shirt on his back.

Heady days.

Although it may seem like only yesterday to some fans, July the 4th 2024 represents 17 years since Torres signed for the Reds from Atletico Madrid.

As a way of celebrating, Liverpool’s official X account released a video of Torres looking through some of his favourite shirts during his time at Anfield.

“The beginning of something great,” commented the 40-year-old when handed the 2007/08 white away shirt, the kit that marked his competitive debut for Liverpool.

Famous for being worn during the famous 4-1 win at Old Trafford in April 2009, the grey chequered shirt with red trim is a favourite of Liverpool fans – and Torres.

“Happy, happy memories!

So, happy times, happy memories.”

After playing back at Anfield during the legends game in March, Torres stayed on to shadow Jurgen Klopp at the AXA Training Centre.

This had led to some speculation that the World Cup winner could be in line for a role as part of Liverpool’s new-look coaching staff.

However, having won a league and cup double this year with Atletico Madrid U19s, Torres has now taken over at Atletico’s B team.

It is a big step up for El Nino, who is reportedly being thought of as a successor to Diego Simeone at Atleti.

Torres has already suggested that he would love to come back and manage Liverpool one day.

Maybe we’ll see him decked out in full Adidas tracksuit on the Anfield touchline in the future.
