Virgil van Dijk has become a Liverpool legend, as predicted by Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard's prediction about Virgil van Dijk has hit the mark, and the Liverpool skipper is now set to bolster his legendary status at Anfield.

The Dutch defender has pledged his future to the club by penning a new two-year deal.

Van Dijk has emulated Mohamed Salah by sealing an extension with only a few months left on his existing contract.

However, chats and text conversations with Gerrard and Jordan Henderson helped sway him towards choosing Anfield.

The core message from Gerrard and Henderson was, "You'll become a legend." That has turned out to be spot on, with Van Dijk playing a pivotal role in Liverpool's success under Jurgen Klopp, claiming the Champions League and Premier League titles, alongside both domestic cups.

How Van Dijk would gel with Arne Slot was always going to be vital to his future beyond the current season, and he has carried on where he left off under Klopp.

He looks almost certain to be lifting the Premier League trophy again in a few weeks, this time in front of a packed Anfield following the behind-closed-doors celebrations of 2020.
