Liverpool picked up an important win on Wednesday night as they edged a tight Merseyside Derby with Everton.

The Reds had had to wait a long time for redemption after losing two big games back-to-back just before the international break.

It had been even longer since Liverpool conceded a late goal to draw 2-2 with Everton at Goodison Park in February, and they would have been eager to consign that to history at Anfield.

Ultimately, a trademark second-half Diogo Jota strike ensured they were able to do that, and three points restored their 12-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Arne Slot celebrated on the pitch at full-time, with the Liverpool head coach fully aware of how much the result was needed.

And having recently left his post as a manager in Saudi Arabia, former Reds captain Steven Gerrard was also present at Anfield, and celebrated accordingly with Mohamed Salah after the whistle.

Prior to Wednesday’s game, Gerrard had played at Anfield more recently than any of the Liverpool squad.

The 44-year-old was in the legends’ team that beat Chelsea during the break.

And Stevie was back at his home once again on Wednesday, taking in an important game for his former club.

With the dust settling on a big 1-0 win for Liverpool, Gerrard headed into the bowels of the stadium to meet with the victorious players.

The former skipper loves Salah, and proved that once again by sharing a photo of the two of them together in the Anfield in-ground carpark on his Instagram stories.

“Big win,” posts Gerrard, with a bicep emoji and a heart added in too.

Just before Gerrard sought him out, Salah was providing his own post-match reaction photos.

The Egyptian’s goal-scorer selfies have become legendary this season and Jota made an overdue appearance this time.

Meanwhile, Alexis Mac Allister, subject of a horror tackle by Everton’s James Tarkowski which somehow warranted just a yellow card, gave his reaction, too.

“These matches are played with passion and soul,” Mac Allister wrote on Instagram.

“One more, one less.”

Virgil van Dijk, meanwhile, simply went with “THE REDS!” having come through a slightly shaky performance unscathed.

Liverpool are one step closer after Wednesday, but the job isn’t done yet.
