Steven Gerrard and Peter Crouch were in hysterics after Liverpool Legends’ 2-0 victory over Chelsea on Saturday.

But that took nothing away from it all being for a good cause in the LFC Foundation’s annual charity match.

The Reds’ clash with Chelsea was the ninth official Legends game so far, with the club raising over £7.5m from the previous eight matches.

Funds raised are used to benefit people both in the Liverpool City Region and internationally.

And speaking to LFC TV after the game, both Gerrard and Crouch made a point of acknowledging that raising money for charity is more important than the result on the day.

However, the pair took great delight in the win and were left in hysterics at how competitive team-mate Jay Spearing took proceedings, with the Liverpool Academy player-coach flying into a number of tackles and earning the wrath of Chelsea legend Dennis Wise in the process.

“Listen, you want to win.

I think once the game starts, we all realise what we're here for,” Gerrard said.

“Just see Jay Spearing for details, he's got about four yellow cards, hasn't he?!”

Crouch burst into laughter before interjecting: “I don't think Dennis Wise was too happy with him in the first half!”

That was enough for Gerrard to burst out laughing too, before revealing what Sir Kenny Dalglish said in the dressing room before the game.

“But once the whistle goes, Kenny says to us before the game it's for a great cause but we want to win as well,” he said.

“Whatever the boss says!”

Meanwhile, when asked how they planned to celebrate, Gerrard teased that the Legends were set to enjoy their night.

“Ice bath, first and foremost,” he said.
