Steven Gerrard's departure from Al-Ettifaq has been confirmed by the Saudi Pro League side.

The former Liverpool midfielder joined Ettifaq in the summer of 2023 and took charge of 59 matches, winning 23, drawing 16 and losing 20.

But a poor start to the 2024/25 season had Gerrard's side sitting just five points above the relegation zone, with the pressure starting to build on the former England international.

In a bid to improve their fortunes, Gerrard's former Rangers assistant manager, Michael Beale, was ushered in to become his Ettifaq No.2 in November.

However, the pair's Saudi Arabian adventure has since come to an end, with Gerrard, alongside assistant Beale, having left the Middle Eastern outfit.

It means Gerrard has waved goodbye to his reported £15million-per-year contract - a salary that had been negotiated as part of a two-year contract extension last January.

In a statement, the Saudi Pro League side: "Ettifaq Football Club and Steven Gerrard have today mutually agreed to part company.

The decision follows an amicable conclusion to the relationship with the manager."

Speaking on his departure, Gerrard added: "I want to express my gratitude to the club, the players, the fans, and everyone involved for the opportunity and the support during my time here, especially the president, Mr.

Hamad and the head of football committee Mr.

Hatim.

"I express my gratitude for Mr.

However, I leave with great respect for the club and the country.

"I have no doubt that the work being done will bring success in the future, and i wish the team the very best for the rest of the season."

On the decision, club president Samer al Mishal stated: "First and foremost, we extend our sincere gratitude to Steven for his dedication and hard work during his time with the club.

"Sometimes things don't go as planned, but the firm foundations he helped build will guarantee a bright future in the long term.

He changed the club for the better, and that will never be forgotten.

"This decision, made with mutual respect and in agreement, is in the best interest of both Steven and the club as we move forward."

Gerrard has enjoyed stints in charge of Aston Villa and Rangers, where he decade-long wait for a league title.
