Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard has sparked up frenzy after posting a picture with Reds hero Mohamed Salah.

The 44-year-old posed alongside Salah in the arrival area at Anfield following the win with the Egyptian also posing for pictures with Gerrard's son, Lio, and one of his friends.

Whether or not the ex-Liverpool captain tried to convince Salah to extend his stay beyond this season - with his contract expiring at the end of the season - or managed to gain insight into what the future holds remains to be seen.

But Gerrard, who is the record-holder for most goals in the Merseyside derby, enjoyed the Reds getting one over on their local rivals to move a step closer to the title.

Taking to Instagram, he wrote: "Big win." He posed alongside Salah with his thumb up.

The former Liverpool midfielder has been a long-standing advocate for Salah.

Indeed, the pair enjoyed a sit-down together as part of a feature for the club's official TV channel as they ran through their best moments in a red shirt.

Speaking back in October, Gerrard said: "I'm not surprised [by Salah's longevity], because I think he is obsessed with the game and I think you can see the body shape, the routines you can see, I obviously follow his social media and I always talk to people [about him].

"I always pick John [Achterberg, Al-Ettifaq goalkeeping coach and former Liverpool coach]'s brain on a daily basis.

He says [Salah] was really obsessed to be the best.

"He wants to break records and also wants to be remembered as the best, so I'm not surprised in terms of how he approaches his profession.

I think he's going to be one of these players that we will all appreciate even more when the day eventually comes that he moves on.

"I still think we'll get a couple of years out of Salah.
