Former Liverpool star Didi Hamann has cast doubt on Steven Gerrard’s potential return to Rangers amid speculation of a sensational comeback.
Gerrard has been linked with an Ibrox reunion as the San Francisco 49ers reportedly eye a takeover.
Gerrard, 44, guided Rangers to Scottish Premiership glory in 2021, halting Celtic’s decade of dominance.
His work in Glasgow was enough to earn a return to the Premier League, though he struggled to back up expectations after taking the reins at Aston Villa.

Despite this success and being cherished by the Rangers fanbase, Gerrard's coaching trajectory post-Ibrox has seen a downturn.
But Hamann has voiced concerns about Gerrard's readiness to plunge back into Scottish football, particularly given the weight of expectation now compared to his first tenure.
"Even though he isn't coaching, I think Steven Gerrard is very settled at the moment," he told BesteOnlineCasinoNederland (via the Daily Record).
If he went back, then fans would be expecting him to win the title but I think there is a very big gap to Celtic now.
"It's not easy to take so many points in Scotland and go so close to taking Bayern Munich to extra-time [in the Champions League].
If he doesn't think he has a chance to overtake Celtic, then it'll be a very short conversation and him turning it down."
