Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris has spoken on Jayden Danns and his injury concern that has disrupted the planned loan spell.
The Black Cats completed a loan deal for the 19-year-old on deadline day, but in the announcement, it was revealed that the teenager has suffered a further complication on his back injury that kept him out of the opening phases of the season.
A stress fracture in his back during August’s pre-season training derailed the start of his season.
This injury not only disrupted his development but also likely prevented a summer loan move that could have provided valuable first-team experience.
Danns achieved a remarkable milestone last Wednesday, etching his name into Liverpool’s history books by becoming the club’s youngest-ever starter in a Champions League match when he lined up against PSV Eindhoven.
But he was always going to struggle to get regular game time under Arne Slot this season, and the decision was made to be sent on loan.
What did Regis Le Bris say about Jayden Danns?
Sunderland are in the midst of a promotion battle this season especially after their memorable 3-2 win over Middlesbrough on Monday and now sit fourth place in the Championship standings.
Meanwhile, Regis Le Bris has admitted that he does not when he can rely on Danns, admitting that it would likely be at least a few weeks:
“We don’t know at the moment with Jayden,” said the Sunderland boss as quoted by the Northern Echo.
“We probably have to take it week by week.”
“He’s still a very young player and it’s fair to say that we have to protect this player.
So, we will work with Liverpool to find the right moment to bring him into the side.”
After the move was announced, Jayden Danns vowed to try and recover as quickly as possible to be able to contribute to Sunderland’s season:
“This is my first loan move and a chance to prove myself, so I’m very appreciative of the opportunity and I’m grateful to the Club for placing their faith in me?
I’ve done my research and the team is incredible, so this feels like the right step.”
“I’m disappointed that I will be unable to do that straightaway, but I’m proud to have joined the Club and I will work hard throughout this period to ensure I can return to action and play my part.”
