Liverpool failed to reclaim their Carabao Cup title with Newcastle United sweeping the Reds aside at Wembley Stadium.
Eddie Howe’s side were simply too much for Liverpool as Dan Burn and Alexander Isak set Newcastle on their way to a first domestic cup title in 70 years, with Federico Chiesa’s late consolation goal not enough to get the Anfield side back into the match.
With Arsenal also winning in the Premier League earlier in the day, Liverpool’s lead at the top of the standings was cut down to 12 points with nine games left to go, with Arne Slot’s side still set for a comfortable title win with the league the only focus.
And Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has now given his verdict on if Liverpool could actually implode in the Premier League after Sunday’s cup final loss against Newcastle.

Speaking on CBS Sports after Liverpool’s loss to Newcastle, Henry backed Slot to see out a Premier League title win, with the Premier League icon stating that the Reds have shown they deserve to lift the championship come the end of the season.
Henry said when asked if Liverpool could bottle the title from here: “No, that’s just how it is when you’ve won more games.
There’s 38 games, that’s how it is, you have to give them the credit to go 12 points ahead, let’s see what happens, but I don’t see it happening except if they implode.”

With an international break now upon us, Liverpool fans won’t see their team in action for well over two weeks, with a Merseyside derby against Everton next up for the Reds in what could be a banana-skin fixture for the Anfield side.
However, with such a convincing lead and only nine games left to go in the Premier League, the title feels all-but wrapped up for Liverpool this season, with the finish line well within sight for the English giants.
With a 12 point lead over Arsenal and just one loss in the Premier League all season, the chances of Liverpool slipping up at this stage of the campaign to throw away the title would be nothing short of cataclysmic.
Yet after this weekend’s Carabao Cup final loss and Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League elimination, Liverpool fans have every right to think the sooner the Premier League title is wrapped up the better for the Reds.
Indeed, Liverpool will want to end the season as soon as possible and start putting plans into place for the next campaign, which could see Slot finally pick up a cup title having missed out on all three in his first term with the Anfield side.
