The futures of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah look set to dominate Liverpool news over the coming weeks.

With the season heading into April, none of the three major stars have put pen to paper on a new contract with their current deals expiring at the end of the season.

This has become a major concern for the majority of Reds fans and Robbie Fowler believes all three will leave Liverpool at the end of the campaign.

Real Madrid are showing strong interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold and out of the trio, the full-back is the most likely to depart Anfield at the end of the season, but Liverpool are hopeful that Van Dijk and Salah stay.

Peter Crouch has been speaking on the topic and the former Reds striker has a theory about the situation of the trio.

Peter Crouch’s theory on the Liverpool futures of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah

As the Liverpool trio continue to discuss new terms with the Merseyside club in the background, it is not only Real Madrid who have shown an interest in one of the players.

Al-Hilal have an interest in Salah ahead of the summer window, while any club in the world will move for Van Dijk should the Dutch star make it clear that he is departing Anfield.

Speaking on TNT Sports’ new series The Breakdown, Crouch has a theory that the trio are talking to clubs in the background but if Liverpool offer them the money they want, all three will remain on Merseyside.

“I don’t think this season has any impact on their decision. As players, you know Rio, their decisions are made. They’re not outwardly saying it, but as players, they know whether they’re staying or going.”

“I think anyone takes Van Dijk, like for a couple of years now, I think any club in the world. Salah as well, I would say, and Trent is obviously a little bit younger. I think they might have clubs in the background, but then they go, if Liverpool hits this number, I’ll stay. That’s what I think.”

The situation is critical for Liverpool to sort out as the contract situation of the trio will have an impact on the rest of their transfer window.

Liverpool set for major transfer problems

It was recently reported that Liverpool’s transfer plans will be impacted by Van Dijk and Salah’s new contracts as the duo will require a big salary to remain at Anfield.

The Premier League leaders have several areas in their squad that they need to address during the summer transfer window and that is slightly on pause until they sort out the contract situations of the three stars, while Ibrahima Konate’s current deal could also become an issue.

Should Liverpool agree a deal to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle and spend over £100m on the striker with the knowledge that Salah is going to leave, only for the Egyptian to turn around and want to sign a new deal, this would put the Reds in a tricky position.

It is crazy that the Premier League leaders have found themselves in this situation and the longer it drags on, the more problems it is likely to create
