Spanish centre-back Dean Huijsen is expected to be at the center of a transfer battle this summer, with Liverpool and other top European clubs vying for his signature.

Fabrizio Romano revealed that Huijsen’s £50 million release clause will become active, a detail later confirmed by the player himself.

Liverpool faces stiff competition, particularly from Real Madrid—a club Huijsen admires and where he idolized Sergio Ramos.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle, and Tottenham have also expressed interest in the 19-year-old, who has made 27 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth this season as they push for European qualification.

The 19-year-old’s €60 million (£50 million) release clause presents a double-edged sword.

While affordable for Premier League elites, it has ignited a bidding war involving Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

The clause, activated after just one season at Bournemouth, reflects his rapid ascent since arriving from Juventus for £13 million in 2024.

Sporting director Richard Hughes could play a pivotal role in bringing Huijsen to Anfield.

Though the defender’s signing was completed after Hughes left Bournemouth to join Liverpool, he was involved in the initial work to bring Huijsen from Juventus to the Vitality Stadium.

This existing relationship could give the Reds an advantage in negotiations.

And now, what could be one of Liverpool’s main rivals for his signature in Real Madrid do not see themselves spending the release clause amount (£50 million) on such a young player.

And it’s not coming from anyone – it’s coming from chief Real Madrid reporter for the Athletic, Mario Cortegana.

The Spanish journalist wrote about Real Madrid interest in Huijsen:

“Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen is another centre-back talked about behind the scenes.

The Netherlands-born Spain international is admired within Madrid and has a deal with Bournemouth until 2030, but this includes a £50million ($64.7m) exit clause.

“Sources with knowledge of the situation say it is difficult to see Madrid spending so much money on a 19-year-old?

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported in his Thursday Q&A session that it looked most probable he would join another Premier League club, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal all interested.”

“Madrid have been in contact with Huijsen’s entourage and have received positive signs, but the expectation is Huijsen will leave Bournemouth for another Premier League club this summer.”

Liverpool know all too well the feeling of losing out to the Spanish giants in the transfer window, so this update comes as a great boost to the club’s chances of landing the teenager.

Earlier this week, Ornstein revealed that Liverpool had held meetings with the player’s entourage.
