Liverpool take on PSG in the Champions League next week as they aim for a place in the quarter-finals.
Having finished top of the inaugural Champions League table, the Reds would likely have been hoping for a more straightforward draw.
However, if Liverpool want to win Europe’s premier competition, then they’re going to have to beat the best.
The two teams do not have much of a history of meeting each other, with only four games taking place between them in the past.
And while Liverpool have a decent record against PSG, they have also seen five former Reds pull on the blue, red and white of Paris.

The first player to represent both Liverpool and PSG was former France striker Nicolas Anelka.
Having began his professional career with the Ligue 1 side, Anelka played for PSG first, before leaving to join Arsenal and then Real Madrid.
But after failing to fully settle at Real, Anelka joined countryman Gerard Houllier on-loan at Liverpool in 2001.
The striker did well at Anfield, but despite a groundswell of support for his permanent signing, Houllier decided to bring in El Hadji Diouf instead.

Following in the footsteps of Anelka as a PSG youth graduate striker who later joined Liverpool was David Ngog in 2008.
After making the breakthrough at his hometown club, Ngog managed to get some appearances under his belt in the 2007/08 campaign.
This convinced Rafa Benitez to sign him up for Liverpool, where he served as Fernando Torres’ understudy during the 2008/09 season in which the Reds came so close to winning the Premier League.
With injuries going on to disrupt Torres’ later time with Liverpool, Ngog played far more than Benitez had perhaps intended, and – one memorable strike against Man United aside – it was clear he was not quite up to standard.

A third player to come through the ranks at PSG before joining Liverpool, Mamadou Sakho never quite lived up to his billing at Anfield.
As a young centre-back developing at Parc des Princes, Sakho had been expected to go on to have a big career in the game.
That prediction looked set to come to fruition, with the defender making his debut at just 17 and becoming permanent captain four years later.
Two years on, and a move to Liverpool looked like a good stage for Sakho to realise his potential.
But throughout an injury and controversy hit four-year spell, the France international never fully convinced.
Upsetting Jurgen Klopp was the final straw, with Sakho banished to the reserves during his final year with the Reds.

The first player to feature for Liverpool before later joining PSG, Momo Sissoko was an often underrated player in Benitez’s ‘best midfield in the world.’
After arriving from Valencia – where Benitez had also managed him – in 2005, Sissoko quickly established himself as one of the most effective defensive midfielders in the Premier League.
However, an eye injury sustained in a Champions League game in February 2006 heavily impacted the Frenchman and he was never quite the same.
Although Benitez described Sissoko as ‘key‘ to his team, he eventually left Liverpool for Juventus in 2008, before moving on to a resurgent PSG in 2011.
There, his paths crossed with Sakho, before he departed to join Levante in 2013.

The only non-French player on this list, Gini Wijnaldum had a superb five-year career at Liverpool before leaving for PSG on a free transfer in 2021.
Wijnaldum was key cog in Klopp’s midfield which won both the Champions League and Premier League in 2019 and 2020.
However, having failed to agree a new deal at Anfield, the Dutchman ran down his contract and joined PSG alongside Lionel Messi in 2021.
Wijnaldum’s spell in Paris was ill-fated, though, as he struggled to get into the team before being shipped out to Roma on-loan after a single season.
Injury ruined Gini’s time in Italy, before he headed out to join Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia with Al Ettifaq in 2023.
