Jurgen Klopp has worked with some of the best players in world football.
From Robert Lewandowski at Borussia Dortmund to Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, he has always had top talent in his squads.
But there are always players a manager admires from afar – players they wish they could have coached.
Klopp has never been one to dwell on missed opportunities.
He focused on the players he had and built strong relationships with them.
He doesn’t look at another team’s star and wish things were different.
But there is one player he wanted for years, someone he tried to sign before he even joined Liverpool.
The one player Jurgen Klopp wishes he had signed for Liverpool
Speaking on the Mike Morton talks Football show, he admitted that player was Kevin De Bruyne.
Klopp said that he “”wanted him before at Dortmund already”, but a move never happened.
He revealed that “Jose Mourinho didn’t let it happen”, referring to De Bruyne’s time at Chelsea under Mourinho.
Despite missing out, Klopp has no regrets.
He explained his mindset, saying, “Honestly, I have a good mindset to be happy.”
“So when I’m happy, I’m happy.
When I’m happy with my team, I’m happy with my team.”
Even though De Bruyne became one of Liverpool’s biggest rivals at Manchester City, Klopp never let that bother him.
He added, “And so I don’t think, ‘look at him.’”
Klopp has always backed his players, no matter who he could have signed.
But it’s clear that De Bruyne is one that got away.
