Virgil van Dijk has revealed there has been "progress" on contract talks with Liverpool, delivering a hint that a resolution may now be found in his ongoing impasse at Anfield.
The Reds captain, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, is into the final few months of his deal on Merseyside and has been locked in talks over fresh terms for months without an agreement seemingly near.

Van Dijk explained shortly before the Carabao Cup final defeat to Newcastle United over three weeks ago that he was still unclear as to whether he would remain a Liverpool player beyond the expiration of his current contract.

But in a post-match chat at Fulham following the 3-2 loss at Craven Cottage, the skipper has given a short update, suggesting there has been some headway made in negotiations with his representatives ROOF and the club.
“There is progress, yeah," Van Dijk revealed.
We have to make it work and we will.
"We will be training quite a lot and we are in a very good position but games like this, especially in the first half, show the job is not done and I’ve been saying it every week.
"That’s definitely the mentality in our group that the job [of winning the league] is not done and now we just have to recover from this, physically and mentally, and put our minds on West Ham at home."
Van Dijk added: "We all know that as players, I’ve mentioned it every week to you guys but what is important is that there’s seven games left and on to West Ham next Sunday, we have to go all in at home, as a team, as players with the fans and to get the three points.
"Of course [Slot was angry at half time].
Obviously it was more encouraging at half time.
I think they were individual moments that should have been dealt with better.
In games, these moments can happen but if you let them back in, they obviously scored three goals and we were on the back foot.
"No-one can ever be perfect and we were sloppy and today we got punished quickly and like I said then it’s a difficult battle to play.
Listen I can’t really put an answer to that (how momentum has been lost),
"We’re trying and there are moments in games where we are outstanding but if we are not fully at our best then you can get punished and that’s what happened."
Van Dijk also spoke on the return of Conor Bradley after around six weeks out with a hamstring issue and the potential comeback of Alisson Becker, who has missed the last three matches for club and country after a suspected concussion when playing for Brazil against Colombia.
"Listen, anyone that can come back and help us to try and win games is very important and the whole squad is so it’s good to see Conor coming back and hopefully he can stay fit now and be important for the rest of the season," Van Dijk said.

"Hopefully Alisson is back soon but these things are dangerous and the most important thing is for him to be healthy and he doesn’t have the green light yet if I’m correct.
