'They are looking': Two 'tremendous talents' from South America have now caught Liverpool's eye - journalist

Liverpool have not been especially good at snapping up young talent from South America over the years.

The Reds have tried, with the likes of Emiliano Insua and Gabriel Paletta springing to mind as players who made the move to Merseyside at a very young age.

But while both players went on to have good careers in the game, neither were especially successful at Liverpool.

Throw in others like Sebastian Leto, and you can perhaps understand why Liverpool have been cautious when exploring the South American market.

Nevertheless, many of their Premier League rivals are showing no such hesitation, snapping up potential future stars for excellent prices.

With the South American U20 Championships currently underway in Venezuela, though, it looks like the Reds might be about to join the party.

Having seen so many South American youngsters move to England lately, it does rather beg the question of why Liverpool are not getting involved in things.

As the Reds wait for the right player to come along, though, journalist Graeme Bailey tells Rousing The Kop that they are actively scouting Argentine pair Ian Subiabre and Agustin Ruberto at the ongoing championship.

“Argentina are the best team there,” says Bailey.

“We know Liverpool looked at the captain, Julio Soler, before he joined Bournemouth.

“Now there are these two boys from River Plate, Ian Subiabre and Augustin Ruberto.”

“Man City assessed them both when they signed Claudio Echeverri and Liverpool are looking closely at the pair of them, they’re very good as you can imagine.

“There’s some tremendous talent in that team.”

Of course, just because Liverpool have not been making the most of the South American market, it does not mean they do not have an eye for poaching young players.

The Reds have taken some of the best prospects from rival British academies of late, with Harvey Elliott, Ben Doak, Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha some good examples.

But according to Bailey, it would not be a surprise to see Liverpool now do the same with some clubs over in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and the rest.

“We’re not talking obscene amounts of money for these players and it’s a market Liverpool are looking at,” the reporter tells RTK.

“The best young players are not going to be that expensive in terms of Premier League level.

We’ve seen Liverpool raiding clubs for young players in this country, so do we see them raiding South America in a similar manner?
