Thierry Henry has made a big claim about Liverpool and Virgil van Dijk.

Van Dijk was the hero on Sunday as Liverpool beat West Ham to move 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

With Arsenal drawing 1-1 with Brentford a day earlier, the Reds needed a win on Sunday to give themselves a chance of potentially winning the title next weekend.

However, after starting very well, the Reds’ energy levels dropped in the second half, allowing West Ham back in the game, after Luis Diaz had put them ahead in the first half.

A mix-up at the back involving Van Dijk and Andy Robertson resulted in the latter scoring an unfortunate own goal late in the game.

However, Van Dijk attoned for his error, by heading Liverpool back into the lead with a well-taken goal.

The goal ensures that Liverpool now need just six points from their last six league games to win the title.

Van Dijk’s goal comes at a crucial time where his discussions around his future is at a fever pitch level.

The defender is expected to sign across the dotted line in the coming days and former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry believes securing a deal for the defender will be one of the club’s biggest achievements.

According to Henry, Van Dijk is Liverpool’s  most important player.

“This is why I keep on saying this is the most important player to sign,” Henry said as he analyzed Van Dijk’s winner against West Ham.

“You have guys that are maybe way better technically, but this is like the foundation of your club.

“You saw it, he just went into a mood of ‘I want to score’?

He said I want to score, and he went to score.

He’s very clever.

“I said, he’s the most important player at Liverpool?

Then you have the most valuable player is Mo Salah, he’s [Van Dijk] the most important.”

All eyes will be on the defender now, with a new contract expected to be announced soon.
