Thomas Tuchel is wasting no time making big calls as England manager.
The German coach is set to lead the Three Lions in their World Cup qualifier against Albania, and he has already made some bold decisions with his squad selection.
England fans are eager to see how Tuchel approaches the job after Gareth Southgate’s tenure.
Back-to-back European Championship final defeats have left the country desperate for success.
Tuchel knows expectations are high, and his first squad selection has already caused plenty of debate.
Every manager has to make tough choices, but Tuchel’s decision to leave out a key Liverpool player has raised eyebrows.
England have plenty of depth in certain positions, but leaving out someone with Premier League and Champions League experience is always a risk.
Thomas Tuchel leaves Liverpool man out of England squad to face Albania
One of the main talking points is the absence of Jarell Quansah from the matchday squad.
The Liverpool defender was named in Tuchel’s initial squad but won’t be part of the team that faces Albania at Wembley.
Tuchel’s decision is in line with the squad rules, which allow only 23 players to be named in the lineup or on the bench.
Alongside Quansah, Morgan Gibbs-White and Aaron Ramsdale were also left out.
For Gibbs-White, the news is especially tough, given that he was only recalled to the squad after Cole Palmer picked up a knock.
He admitted, “Obviously I was upset.
The standard of players is top-level.”
Tuchel has also made his thoughts on England’s past struggles clear.
He told ITV Sport, “They were more afraid to drop out of the tournament than having the excitement and hunger to win it.”
He wants to change that mentality, and his squad selections are already showing his no-nonsense approach.
For Quansah, missing out will be frustrating.
But with a long road to the 2026 World Cup ahead, he will hope for another chance under Tuchel.
