Three Liverpool favourites frozen out after Jurgen Klopp warning as transfer windows close

Inevitably, the Brazilian is no longer alone when it comes to Klopp’s favourites finding out the harsh realities of life after Liverpool.

?

Emre Can, Daniel Sturridge, Gini Wijnaldum, Xherdan Shaqiri, Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson would all find stints with their next clubs cut short as they failed to live up to previous heights, with Roberto Firmino only just avoiding such a fate during an underwhelming first campaign in Saudi Arabia.

In the cases of Can, Wijnaldum and Mane, the trio would swiftly move on after being deemed surplus to requirements by Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich only a year after joining their respective new clubs.

Which is currently more than three of Klopp’s other former stars can claim as they risk being frozen out on the sidelines for the first half of the season as, following the closure of the English transfer window last Friday, the remaining open markets start to close too.

?

As things stand, Naby Keita, Divock Origi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all find themselves in this most uncomfortable of positions, with their options becoming increasingly limited.

Keita joined Werder Bremen on a free transfer when his Liverpool contract expired last summer, but was limited to just five appearances during an injury plagued maiden campaign.

?

He did find himself suspended by the club and banished from first-team training at the end of the season though, having refused to travel for his side’s clash with Bayer Leverkusen after finding out he had been left out of the starting XI.

Despite his club suspension, Keita was Guinea’s flag bearer at this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris, and captained the country in the men’s football tournament as they suffered a group-stage exit.

Together with his agent, we want to sort this all out as soon as possible.”

According to The Guardian, Keita is now in talks with Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir about a possible transfer, having seen a shock switch to Championship side Sunderland reportedly collapse after he failed to agree terms.

?

The summer transfer window in Turkey does not close until September 18, meaning Basaksehir have more than two weeks to get a deal completed should they decide to sign Keita.

But if not, the Guinean’s options are increasingly limited with the majority of transfer windows now shut, and, with two years left on his contract, risks the prospect of being frozen out for the first half of the campaign.

Origi faces a similar fate at AC Milan, having joined the Serie A giants on a free transfer when his own Liverpool contract expired in 2022.

But after scoring just twice from 36 appearances, he was deemed surplus to requirements and sent out on loan to Nottingham Forest last summer.

AC Milan striker Divock Origi

The switch included an option to buy, but scoring just once from 22 appearances, was never activated.

While he had been expected to be surplus to requirements at the San Siro anyway, Ibrahimovic’s statement made the Serie A outfit’s stance clear as they looked to force the striker out of the club.

Yet with two years left on his deal, Origi remains frozen out in Milan with his future uncertain as a result.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has also been frozen out by Besiktas despite only joining the Turkish outfit when his Liverpool contract expired last summer.

Unlike his two former Reds team-mates, he enjoyed a solid enough campaign with the club, returning four goals and an assist from 30 appearances and helping them win the Turkish Cup.

?

However, he was left out of the Bestikas squad for their pre-season training camp ahead of the new season and has not been involved at all during the new campaign.

Deemed surplus to requirements and informed he was free to find a new club, the Turkish outfit even snubbed wishing the midfielder a happy birthday on social media last month.

While he had been linked with a return to England, no move materialised before the transfer window closed last Friday.

Consequently, Oxlade-Chamberlain, who also has to years left on his contract, remains bombed out at Besiktas.

?

It remains to be seen if any of the three find a way out of their current clubs before the remaining open markets close, or if they will remain frozen out until January before being free to reassess their options.

Life after Liverpool is tough for many, but for Keita, Origi and Oxlade-Chamberlain, it has certainly proven to be harder than most.
