Liverpool stand one result away from securing their 20th English top-flight title and first Premier League crown since 2020, needing only a draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday to clinch the championship following Arsenal’s 2-2 stalemate with Crystal Palace.
The Reds’ 12-point lead at the summit became unassailable after Jean-Philippe Mateta’s 89th-minute equalizer for Palace dashed Arsenal’s fading hopes, leaving Mikel Arteta’s side just about mathematically unable to catch Arne Slot’s men.
Trent Alexander-Arnold was able to make a return from an ankle injury against Leicester City, his first appearance in over a month.
It will now be interesting to see if Conor Bradley starts the rest of the games this season, and this decision could reveal an awful lot about the vice-captain’s future after this season.
For Tottenham, their priorities surely lie elsewhere.
Postecoglou is prioritizing Europa League success over Premier League mediocrity – with the London side in a Europa League semi-final against Norway’s FK Bodø/Glimt.
Their 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest on Monday extended a dismal away record of 15 winless road games, including three consecutive defeats.
Despite historical struggles at Anfield—winning just once there since 2011—plenty of Spurs players have returned from injury and could play spoiler to Liverpool’s coronation.
Injury woes have been a consistent theme of Spurs’ season, with first-choice defensive duo Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero both out for large swathes of the campaign.
Both defenders started during the 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest but were taken off after the interval, with Ange Postecolgou admitting on Monday it was with the trip to Anfield in mind.
But despite the positive news on that front, Tottenham still have some injury concerns to worry about:
Heung-Min Son – doubt
The Tottenham captain’s absence looms largest, with Son Heung-min ruled out indefinitely due to a chronic foot issue exacerbated by months of overuse.
Initial discomfort during April’s Europa League quarter-final against Eintracht Frankfurt escalated into debilitating pain, forcing him to miss matches against Wolves and Frankfurt’s second leg.
And having not made the squad vs their recent defeat to Nottingham Forest on Monday, he is a major doubt.
Radu Dragusin
Tottenham’s defensive crisis deepened in February when Radu Dragusin suffered a complete anterior cruciate ligament tear during a Europa League clash with Elfsborg.
The Romanian won’t play again this season.
Joe Gomez
The only confirmed Liverpool absence is Joe Gomez, who has been out since early February after suffering an aggravation of a hamstring injury during the FA Cup defeat vs Plymouth Argyle.
The English defender underwent surgery to repair torn fibres, beginning a three-month recovery.
Manager Arne Slot indicated a mid-May return, potentially aligning with final Premier League matches against Brighton and Crystal Palace.
