According to the Athletic, Liverpool are close to signing Marcelo Pitaluga who is currently at Brazilian club Fluminense.

The report says that the two clubs have agreed on an initial fee of around £700,000 for the Brazilian and this could rise to £1.8 million in add-ons.

The 17-year-old will pen an initial three-year deal with the Merseyside club and has the option to extend the contract for a further two years.



The Reds have already signed left-back Kostas Tsimikas for £11.75 million fee from Olympiacos, and now Pitaluga is set to be their second signing of the transfer window.

Prior to that, here are the three things to know ahead of his transfer move to Liverpool:

1- No professional game yet

Pitaluga is about to sign for one of the biggest European clubs but he hasn’t made his professional debut yet.

His current club are reportedly keen to sell because they don’t require his services.

Currently, he is behind the other goalkeepers Muriel, Marcos Felipe and Joao Lopes in the pecking order.

And though they agree the 17-year-old has potential, the Brazilian side don’t believe he will bring improvements in their team instantly.

Seeing that he doesn’t have the experience, it is expected that he will head to Liverpool’s academy and will have to prove his abilities to rise through the ranks.

2- Representation for Brazil’s youth teams

Though he hasn’t played a professional match yet, Pitaluga has impressed with his performances at youth level football.

The 17-year-old was a member of the U17 Brazil squad that claimed the 2019 FIFA World Cup, though he wasn’t the number one keeper as Matheus Donelli was handed the main role.

Like Liverpool’s main stopper Alisson Becker, he is of German heritage.

The talented young goalkeeper has preferred the Brazilian youth set-up so far but we cannot rule out the possibility that he can also opt to change his allegiance down the line.
