'To rely on him': Alan Shearer says Arne Slot now has a real 'decision to make' over one Liverpool player

Liverpool fans headed down to Leicester on Easter Sunday with the prospect of celebrating a Premier League title win later in the day.

But while Arsenal ultimately ensured that did not happen, the travelling Reds were treated to something arguably even more dramatic.

After months of speculation over his future, Trent Alexander-Arnold returned from injury to fire home a late winner.

Alexander-Arnold celebrated wildly and has some fans believing he is now destined to stay at Liverpool.

For the record, we’re not buying it.

Whatever you think about Trent and his mixed messages, though, his impact once again shone a light on the fact that Liverpool have a job on their hands replacing the Scouser if he does leave.

Conor Bradley had started against Leicester and by and large did fine.

But after seeing Alexander-Arnold become the match-winner, pundit Alan Shearer sounded less convinced that Bradley is the answer for Arne Slot next season.

It is perhaps a little unfair to Bradley that a decision over whether he is good enough to be first choice for Liverpool has arrived so soon in his career.

In an ideal world his ascension would come a year or two down the line.

As it is, his relative inexperience could mean Liverpool look to the market to source a new starting right-back.

Speaking on BBC Match of the Day 2 on Sunday night, Shearer said that although Bradley has the ‘talent’ to be Alexander-Arnold’s replacement, there is a decision to make over the Northern Irishman.

“They’ve got a decision to make on Conor Bradley,” said the Premier League legend.

“If Trent is going to choose to go away then good luck to him because he’s won absolutely everything there, he’s been a superstar.”

Although he was not perfect against Leicester, Gary Neville had some encouraging words about Bradley during Sunday’s match.

Neville knows a thing or two about playing right-back for a top Premier League side, so his opinion should carry a little more weight than usual there.

Ultimately, though, the decision over whether or not to trust Bradley is likely to be down to Slot.

If it were us making the call, we think it’s only fair to give the Liverpool academy graduate a chance to prove he can nail down the starting spot.

He’ll be 22 this summer and may develop even further with more regular game time.

The signs have been there so far that Bradley can be a starter for Liverpool and we think that’s what the Reds will end up deciding too.
