The squad that Arne Slot has inherited in his first season at Liverpool are a tight-knit group, with many deserving of their flowers as players who have been instrumental to the Reds’ domination of the Premier League this year.

Another league title dream is now closer than ever with Liverpool requiring just three more points from their five remaining matches this season, to reach the long-awaited twenty.

There have been many standouts at the forefront of it all such as Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch but there have been players who haven’t caught the headlines as much, subsequently doing their work in the background.

We will be diving deeper into five names who Liverpool have had to call upon throughout the campaign, and give them a deserving mention as underrated performers of this soon-to-be league title winning side.

ALEXIS MAC ALLISTERCrystal Pix/MB Media/Getty Images.

Alexis Mac Allister’s impact under Arne Slot this season has become a joy to watch.

The Argentine has been a consistent presence in Liverpool’s midfield, but his contributions often go unnoticed.

Mac Allister’s job in the middle of the park is to dictate play and maintain the team’s tempo when in possession, whilst using his pressing abilities and attributes as a box-to-box midfielder, to express his qualities.

His positional awareness and decision-making are mature beyond his years and having already become a World Cup winner at 26, Mac Allister’s experience mixed with leadership allows others to elevate their game.

When Liverpool do become Premier League champions, Alexis Mac Alllister will have played an important part, becoming the heartbeat of their young and evolving midfield.

A £35million masterstroke.

CONOR BRADLEYDavid Rawcliffe/Propaganda.

Conor Bradley experienced a surreal breakthrough campaign under Jurgen Klopp, and has been able to push on to another level for the Reds this term.

Despite experiencing injury issues, Bradley has developed and matured into a key asset for Arne Slot and Liverpool, acting as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s understudy – and a very good one.

Although, given the remaining uncertainty around Alexander-Arnold’s future, the young Northern-Irishman could earn a deserved promotion to the club’s main right-back spot, as early as next season.

At just 20 years of age, Bradley has handled the step-up into the first-team, like a seasoned pro and his ability to handle the pressure moments make him stand out.

For example, the young defender started Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League clash against Real Madrid in November and handled a top player such as Kylian Mbappe, like he was just another player in the playground and stamped his authority with a sliding tackle to remember.

Conor Bradley’s game intelligence is crucial to Liverpool and whilst he may not be as ‘flashy’ as his competitor on the right-flank, he remains one of many unsung heroes.

CODY GAKPO

Cody Gakpo has delivered on many occasions for Liverpool this season, yet he doesn’t get the same buzz as others.

The Dutchman is efficient and clinical infront of goal, netting sixteen times across all competitions and prior to a recent injury, has been a seven-out-of-ten performer in most weeks over the course of the campaign.

Gakpo’s versatility is key for Arne Slot and his ability to hold the ball to bring others into play is crucial to the system.

But, he is often playing the role that is beneficial to the team and not his individual brilliance.

He is intelligent, selfless and talent to drop into the half spaces to create opportunities for teammates is a huge strength to Gakpo’s game.

The perfect system player who has played a vital role for the Reds this season, and will hope to end on a high.

WATARU ENDOHarry Murphy/Propaganda.

Wataru Endo has quickly become a fan-favourite amongst supporters and is often named in the underrated category.

Despite game-time being limited under Arne Slot this campaign, the Japanese has managed to make important contributions for Liverpool.

Endo’s reading of the game and overall experience has been pivotal to the Reds towards the latter stages of matches.

Slot has often called upon Endo from the subtitute bench, when Liverpool are in need of a reliable head to get over the line and on many an occasion, he has managed to repay the faith.

At 32, Wataru Endo offers valuable experience and has become the man who Liverpool can rely upon to do dirty work at the very base of the midfield.

HARVEY ELLIOTTRico Brouwer/Soccrates/Getty Images.

Whilst often overlooked by Arne Slot, Harvey Elliott has made the most of every opportunity given to him this season.

The boyhood Red offers tons of creativity from different attacking areas, versatility and injects urgency when Liverpool require it.

Despite limited minutes, Elliott has managed to make valuable contributions over the course of the season, arriving mostly as late cameos in matches.

He provides clutch contributions that add a momentum shift in Liverpool’s favour, subsequently offering a unique blend of talent that doesn’t get shown enough.

Elliott may not be a regular in this Liverpool side, but the Reds look better when he is involved.

The unsung heroes have been just as important as the headline-grabbers for Liverpool this season, and this is another huge compliment towards Arne Slot’s overall use of his squad.

The overall balance between the rotational players accompanied by the stars, have coincided with the Reds being on the verge of greatness that could officially be sealed this week.
