Spence, 24, has impressed on his unfavoured left side since breaking into the Spurs team late last year and he was named man of the match in Sunday's 2-0 win at Brentford, where he stood up well to the in-form Bryan Mbuemo.

Spence was speaking at Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium while sporting a pin badge of the Spurs' crest flanking the Jamaican national flag.

The London-born defender, whose father is Jamaican, says he is proud of his heritage but is targeting a senior England call-up after winning six caps for the Under-21s.

The win in west London ended a run of four straight league defeats for Spurs and was their first victory in the Premier League since Spence's full debut at Southampton on December 15.

At full-time, Postecoglou's players huddled together in front of their away supporters and Spence says they want to use the result to kick on.

"We’re buzzing," he said.

Once they come back it gives us the strength to kick on in the season."

Asked about being named man of the match for the first time, Spence added: "I'm buzzing, it’s my first, so hopefully first of many.

"I just swore down to keep going and [the team] congratulated me.

I'm happy.

"I just believe in my abilities and I'm a confident player, so if I’m playing off the left or right I just try to do my best.

"I think I'm a very calm person off the pitch as well, on the pitch, I'm very calm and I'm composed."
