Arsenal to learn Nypan decision

The Evening Standard report that Arsenal are expected to learn whether they have secured the services of Norwegian teenager Sverre Nypan this week.

The teenager’s father, Arne Nypan, has confirmed after talks were held with interested clubs that a decision is expected on his son’s future before the transfer window closes on Monday.

“It is an advantage to put it behind us and make a decision before the window closes,” he told Nettavisen in Norway.

“They are big and professional clubs [interested in Nypan], but what impresses me is how thoroughly nice people are who have good values.

“They are really concerned about Sverre, which we were careful about.

Rashford's Barcelona hopes 'dwindle'

Sky Sports’ Melissa Reddy is reporting that Marcus Rashford’s hopes of joining Barcelona this month are “receding by the day”.

The Catalan clubs need to “create salary space” in order to sign Rashford, but they are “having issues trimming the squad”, with Eric Garcia having decided to stay and Ansu Fati not wanting to leave.

Reddy does not rule out a move though, saying it would be “opportunistic” and late in the window if it were to happen.

City lead January spending

According to Sky Sports, Premier League clubs have already doubled their spending compared to the January window of last year.

Top-flight sides spent £116.2m in January 2024, while the current total for 2025 is up to over £234m.

Manchester City alone have spent £126.1m so far this month, having signed Omar Marmoush (£63.2m), Vitor Reis (£29.4m) and Abdukodir Khusanov (£33.5m).

The Citizens are also reportedly looking at a deal for Andrea Cambiaso – who could cost around £67m – as well as midfield targets.

Several other clubs are looking to do business this month before the window closes on 3 February, so expect the current total to climb considerably.
