Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Real Madrid for a free transfer from Liverpool this summer, with some even suggesting that the matter is a done deal at this point.

Still, nothing has been officially confirmed from either end of the proposed arrangement.

It has been recognised since this point last year that the 26-year-old's Anfield contract was expiring this summer, though Liverpool have ultimately found no new agreement.

Alexander-Arnold has won every major honour under the sun, with the potential for a second Premier League title to be added to that figure by the time this season is up.

But who this departure truly impacts is the supporters, who if rumours end up coming true will lose a local hero to admire both playing for their favourite football team and as a presence in the community.

These supporters, our ECHO readers, have been having their say on Alexander-Arnold and any decision he could make to leave the Reds after over 20 years with the club.

Namely, they did this via our live transfer news page, reacting to our head of football Joe Rimmer's thoughts and commenting on the thoughts of Liverpool legend John Aldridge in the first part of his weekly column.

"I would've respected his decision more had he announced it at the beginning of last season so we could at least get the money to buy his replacement and we wouldn't have to put up with the "will he or won't he" all this season," wrote ScouseIan, who added: "If his form drops for just a few games the Madrid fans will turn on him, to them he is a disposable outsider and they're the spoilt children of Europe."

Extratexture wrote: "I’m sure if Trent wanted to renew he would.

The real kick in the teeth for me though is that Trent is gonna be the third local player to have done this," they wrote.

Similarly, Jizmo said: "Trent leaves the club a McManaman/Owen figure instead of a Stevie G/Kenny [Dalglish] but the club are equally culpable."

Feeling hurt, kevlasvegas believes: "He is injured right now, but if he does get fit, I would not be rushing him back in the team for the final few games of the season so he can claim a part of being in (hopefully) the title winning team.

He will soon find out that being at Real Madrid is not going to be a bed of roses and he will not get the love and affection shown here."
