Arne Slot has provided an injury update on Trent Alexander-Arnold after the injury concern he sustained in the 2-0 win over Bournemouth.
The 26-year-old right-back required medical attention in the 70th minute at the Vitality Stadium when he signaled to the bench that he needed to be substituted.
Initial concerns were raised when Slot admitted post-match that “it’s never a good sign if a player is asking for a substitution”.
We then exclusively reported that the thigh injury Alexander-Arnold sustained was not serious, which was later confirmed by the Times’ Paul Joyce in his own report.
While Alexander-Arnold will miss Thursday’s crucial Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham and Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie at Plymouth, he could make his return for the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on February 12.
Liverpool are taking a cautious approach with his recovery, ensuring no unnecessary risks are taken with his fitness.
What did Arne Slot say about Trent Alexander-Arnold injury?
Speaking in his pre-Tottenham press conference, Slot confirmed the common knowledge that Trent Alexander-Arnold will not play against Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow night:
“Yeah, he is going to miss the game tomorrow?
We have to see if he’s able to play Sunday… but what we do know is that he can’t play tomorrow.”
When probed further on the nature of the injury, Slot said:
“You saw that he left the pitch with pain in his leg, so that’s why he is missing the game tomorrow.”
“He’s already on the pitch, not with the team but with the rehab coach.”
“So, let’s see how long it’s going to take but he will not be available tomorrow.”
