Liverpool could let Trent Alexander-Arnold move to Real Madrid early after agreeing to bring forward the start of the transfer window to June 1.

Premier League clubs voted to break the summer window into two sections, the first of which runs from June 1 to June 10, to allow clubs to register players for the Club World Cup.

This means the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City can add new players to their squad in time for FIFA's newly-revamped tournament.

The window will then close again until June 16, before staying open for the summer until September 1 in line with other European leagues.

The "exceptional" window permitted by FIFA also applies to Madrid and other European clubs taking part in the Club World Cup who wish to make changes to their squads.

Madrid have been chasing Alexander-Arnold for some time after seeing a £20million bid for the England star rejected in the January window.

Alexander-Arnold is one of three major Liverpool players that could leave as a free agent this summer, alongside centre-back Virgil van Dijk and forward Mohamed Salah.

Los Blancos could now finally seal a deal for Alexander-Arnold, but the La Liga side would have to wait until his contract expires on June 30 in order to sign him for free.

If they wanted to sign him in time for the Club World Cup, they would have to pay a small fee to release him from his Liverpool contract early.

FIFA's new rules would also allow out-of-contract players to join before June 30, though it remains to be seen whether Liverpool would free up Alexander-Arnold to leave for nothing before then.

According to a report by the Sun, Madrid would have to pay around £5m to release him from his Liverpool deal early just to compete in the new tournament.

It would seem to be a steep price to pay for a player they could sign for free just weeks later, but Madrid are in serious need of a new right-back option after losing Dani Carvajal to a crucial ligament injury and he won't be available until at least August.

Madrid have been rotating the likes of Lucas Vasquez and Federico Valverde in that position and might be tempted to bite the bullet to have a proper option filled in.

Having a bigger squad will be essential for teams fearing their players could burnout with extra games this summer.

They will be one of the high profile clubs competing at the Club World Cup in America this summer, alongside Inter Milan, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint Germain, Benfica and FC Porto.
