Two Milos Kerkez alternatives have been revealed and ruled out ahead of what could be a very busy summer for Liverpool.
The Anfield club is poised to prioritize reinforcing the left-back position this summer, with Andy Robertson’s inconsistent form and Kostas Tsimikas’ long-term prospects prompting a strategic shift in their transfer plans.
The Reds, who have relied on Robertson’s marauding runs since his 2017 arrival, have seen the Scot struggle with injuries and defensive lapses this season.
At 30, it would be prudent for the club to be looking for alternatives.
And while the Hungary left-back has been touted as one of Arne Slot’s main targets for this upcoming transfer window, it seems he was not the only one on the left-back list.
According to a report by Mark Douglas for the i Paper, both Alphonso Davies and Nuno Mendes were on the list, but are now ruled out with the pair both having signed long-term contracts recently:
“One source characterised Liverpool’s work on Milos Kerkez as “meticulous and proper due diligence.”, it was written.
“He is the last man standing on a three-man shortlist of Nuno Mendes & Alphonso Davies who both recently signed new contracts.”
Mendes signed until 2028 and Davies until 2027—leaving Bournemouth’s star as the “last man standing” on the club’s three-man shortlist.
Financial parameters for any potential deal are becoming clearer, with Bournemouth expected to demand approximately £40 million for their prized asset.
This represents nearly triple the £15 million fee the Cherries paid AZ Alkmaar for their Milos Kerkez transfer less than two years ago.
Speaking to the Athletic last week, the Hungary international confirmed that he is open for a move away:
“As a kid, you dream to play at the highest level, win the trophies, be on the best teams,” Kerkez said
“These are the things that my agent is on.
It is not something that they occupy me with because the season is still going, so there’s no point to talk about anything.”
“There’s games left, the FA Cup is important for us — these are big things.”
In perhaps his most significant admission yet, the 21-year-old added that he was going to ‘see what happens’ in the upcoming summer transfer window:
“And then, like I say, when someone comes (in for you) you never know what’s going to happen or where you’re going to end up?
In the summer, we will see what happens.”
