Liverpool failed to retain their Carabao Cup title this weekend as Newcastle United came away with a historic 2-1 result at Wembley Stadium.

Dan Burn and Alexander Isak were the heroes for the Magpies as Eddie Howe ended Newcastle’s 70-year wait for a domestic title, with Liverpool left with egg on their face after a truly poor performance in the English capital.

One notable thing about the Reds was their lack of attacking intent, with Gary Neville slamming Mohamed Salah for failing to turn up for Liverpool as the winger endured one of his quietest games in some time for the Anfield side.

As a result of the performance, Jamie Carragher suggested that Liverpool need two fast attackers to help complement Salah if the Egyptian is to stay on Merseyside, and here are two suggestions for Arne Slot’s team to consider this summer.

With Liverpool linked with Newcastle striker Isak, it would make sense to include the Swedish international as one of the two options on this list given how good the attacker has been this season for the Magpies.

Yet with Newcastle likely to demand a Premier League record fee for the attacker, Liverpool could be better off moving for a younger and cheaper option in the summer, with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko the ideal option.

Liverpool have already moved for Sesko with Jurgen Klopp lauding the Slovenian international as ‘ridiculous’ in the past, making the 21-year-old striker seemingly the perfect option for the Reds in the off-season.

With Darwin Nunez already rumoured with an exit from Liverpool, signing Sesko could be viewed by some fans as a masterstroke of a transfer decision from the Anfield side, with the pacey youngster ready for a move to the Premier League.

As well as Nunez, Luis Diaz is another Liverpool attacker who has been linked with a departure in the summer, with FC Barcelona, Manchester City and clubs in Saudi Arabia eyeing the Colombia international in the transfer window.

And should the former FC Porto man leave, Liverpool might find it hard to identify a better replacement than Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, who is enjoying a breakout season in the Bundesliga with the German giants.

Much like Sesko, Liverpool have been linked with Gittens heading into the summer transfer window with the former City academy star likely to become one of England’s next attacking superstars if he can continue at his current development trajectory.

Although a big transfer fee might be needed to secure Gittens’ signature, the 20-year-old Reading-born forward could be worth the investment for Liverpool, especially with Slot as good as he is at developing wingers and transforming them into goalscoring machines.
