UEFA have announced a change to their Champions League knock out stage.
Arne Slot and his men are sitting comfortably already seeded in the round of 16 and can now watch the dog fight between the rest of the play-off teams in the coming weeks.
The UEFA Champions League’s new format for the 2024/25 season initially faced significant skepticism, with concerns ranging from competitiveness issues to worries about an excessive number of matches.
However, as the league stage unfolded, these apprehensions largely dissipated.
The new format produced numerous exciting matches and unexpected results, such as Aston Villa and Lille stunning Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, respectively.
It allowed for a greater diversity of matchups, creating a more continental feel to the competition, while the single league table maintaining excitement until the final matchday.
The introduction of the knockout round play-offs before the Round of 16 has been particularly well-received, producing huge clashes like Manchester City and Real Madrid this week before getting into the round of 16 proper.

The adidas Pro Ball Munich draws inspiration from the host city of the 2024 final, celebrating Munich’s rich cultural heritage and its status as the gateway to the Bavarian Alps.
The ball’s design features the iconic Champions League stars in white, complemented by striking green and copper hexagons that pay homage to Munich’s distinctive rooftops and architecture.
Within these panels, intricate graphics depict Bavaria’s most recognizable symbols, including the Alps, the Palatine Lion, edelweiss flowers, the Waldlerhaus, the English Garden, and hops – a crop integral to the region’s famous brewing tradition.
UEFA further outline the technical and design features of the ball, saying:
“This season’s official match ball has featured a range of technological innovations.
An outer texture coating offers secure grip and complete control, while the thermally bonded seamless construction is built for ultimate performance.”
“Meanwhile, a groundbreaking CTR-CORE within the ball – tuned for accuracy and consistency – supports fast, precise play with maximum shape and air retention.”
“The core consists of two components – a zero-waste bladder containing renewable, natural rubber, and the carcass made from a double patched PES fabric giving the bladder its strength and shape.”
Enthusiasts and collectors can purchase the new official match ball starting this week through adidas stores, select retail outlets, and online.
