Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has revealed what he thinks of Liverpool under Arne Slot compared with how the team fared under former manager Jurgen Klopp.
Emery’s Aston Villa side host Liverpool this Wednesday in a Premier League game set to kick off at 7:30pm GMT.
Liverpool go into the game seven points clear at the top and with the chance of increasing their lead over Arsenal to ten points.
The Reds’ fortunes under Slot remain a huge surprise to many, who expected the Dutchman to struggle in his first season in England?
Klopp had left Liverpool in a good position, but the coming of a new manager and the lack of signings in the summer suggested that Slot will be unable to hit the heights his predecessor attained at the club.
However, the former Feyenoord manager has not only hit the height, but he is also threatening to surpass Klopp, with his team currently leading the Premier League table with 13 games to go.
Ahead of Liverpool’s meeting with Aston Villa, Unai Emery, who enjoyed some touchline battles with Klopp, has admitted that the Reds under Slot are even more devastating.
What Unai Emery said about Slot and Liverpool
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s game, Emery said:
“We have to try to impose our gameplan, to dominate with our structure tactically and collectively, then trying to use our skilled players as well to get the difference on the field against them in the duels and collectively.
“We will have to compete adapting of them because, of course, tomorrow Liverpool, they are going to demand [from] us a lot about everything, tactically and individually.
“I appreciate the very high performance they are getting this year, more than the last two years when I arrived here.
“Of course, with Klopp, they did fantastic, but this year with Slot, they are even doing better.
“For me as a coach, it’s really a big challenge tomorrow, a great challenge to try to be motivated, how we can collectively set our gameplan against them.
“It is the most difficult match we are going to play for the last weeks and months.”
The Spaniard also labelled Liverpool as “the best team in Premier League” and “the best team in Europe.”
