It would be a brilliant piece of business if the Reds could bring in the £62.5m offered for the 25-year-old in January as that money could be reinvested wisely.
Slot has shown this season that he likes his number nine to drop deep to create for his wingers, which goes against all the attributes that make Nunez a threat.
Liverpool may already be aware of the perfect player for Slot’s system ahead of the summer and that star has now been compared to club-legend Roberto Firmino.

Slot praised Wolves’ Matheus Cunha ahead of Liverpool’s clash with the Midlands club at the weekend with the Dutch coach describing the Brazilian as a ‘quality player’.
Liverpool have been linked to Cunha in the past and when asked if a move for the Wolves star is possible this summer, journalist David Lynch believes it is, as the Brazilian is very similar to Firmino.
“It is so similar to the Jurgen Klopp team, getting shots for the wingers, for the centre-forwards it is all about linking up and bringing the play together.”
Lynch continued: “You look at Jota’s role around the first goal [against Wolves], he is just there to link up, isn’t he?
Whether he reaches that level or not we will have to see.
“He is 25 years old, a very good age for Liverpool to sign someone, got some experience in the Premier League, got some goals behind him and he has got that £60m release clause.”
It was evident on Sunday just why Cunha would be a success at Liverpool as the Brazilian star caused all sorts of problems for the Reds.
The 25-year-old scored a beauty with his left foot from outside of the box and the way he struck it would have reminded the Anfield faithful of Firmino.
It was not only this, as Cunha was often spotted dropping deep to create for his teammates, a trait synonymous with Liverpool’s former number nine.
The Wolves star also put in a shift off of the ball with his pressing and work rate to help out his teammates.
It would not be a surprise to see the Premier League leaders in the mix for the Wolves star this summer as the Merseyside club could require a new number nine.
