Liverpool fans are expecting to see some big changes to their first-team squad during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Reds have kept largely the same playing staff over the past 18 months, but are likely to see something different in the coming months.

One of the changes is set to be in the goalkeeping department, where Giorgi Mamardashvili will arrive from Valencia.

Mamardashvili has received some criticism recently, with Valencia battling relegation from La Liga.

After he gifted a goal to Real Valladolid, Mamardashvili was forced to publicly apologise and vowed to return to his previous level.

And during Saturdayโ€™s eveningโ€™s clash with Girona, the incoming Liverpool goalkeeper certainly did that.

Giorgi Mamardashvili delivers โ€˜wonderfulโ€™ save

It has been a tough old season for Mamardashvili and Valencia. With ten games left to play, Carlos Corberanโ€™s team sit two places and one point above the relegation zone.

In that context, their 1-1 draw away at 11th placed Girona was not a bad one at all. And Mamardashvili was key to it.

As seen on a video clip posted by Premier Sports on X, the Georgian made a top save to keep the score at 0-0 early in the second-half.

Having seen the ball get put back across the goal from a corner, Mamardashvili pounced to his left to keep out a point-blank header.

โ€œIt comes to Van de Beek and there is a wonderful save!โ€ raves the commentator. โ€œMamardashvili to the rescue, he got down so well!โ€

โ€œSome questions about whether he would start tonight, and with that brilliant stop he absolutely justifies Corberanโ€™s decision.โ€

Mamardashvili receives timely boost

After his move to Liverpool was confirmed last August, Mamardashvili has certainly been under the microscoperat Valencia. The Spanish team had no doubt expected a better season.

Although it has been far from perfect for the 24-year-old, it is all good experience before his arrival at Anfield.

From there, though, it remains to be seen exactly what the plan is for Mamardashvili.

Alisson Becker has been in good form recently and if the Brazilian does not leave โ€“ which is expected to be the scenario โ€“ then he should still be first choice next season.

In our opinion, Mamardashvili should look for a loan for another season if he is not content to play second-fiddle at Liverpool.

Either way, for now it is just good to see the Georgia international once again demonstrating why Liverpool signed him in the first place.
