Liverpool secured a 1-0 win against Everton in the Merseyside derby, with the result far from the biggest story of the night.
James Tarkowski went in hard on Alexis Mac Allister early on at Anfield with the Argentine international left in some pain by the Everton defender, who won the ball but when in two-footed with the follow through on the Liverpool star.
Despite the recklessness of the challenge, the defender escaped a red card as the former Burnley star only picked up a yellow, with Mark Clattenburg believing that Tarkowski should have been sent off for his tackle on Mac Allister.
Yet Jamie Carragher has said he spotted something between Mac Allister and Tarkowski after the full-time whistle.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the pundit said Tarkowski apologised to Mac Allister for his challenge in the first-half, with Carragher saying: “I saw this at the end, them coming together, him saying he didn’t mean it.
We’ve all been there.”
With Carragher believing that Tarkowski should have been sent off for his tackle on Mac Allister, the two players coming together with a positive attitude at the end of the match is an encouraging sign, especially with the Liverpool man escaping a serious injury.
Indeed, Mac Allister has been one of Liverpool’s most important players this season, and losing the midfielder to a bad injury in the Merseyside derby would have been a killer blow for the Reds in their bid to win the Premier League.

However, the former Brighton & Hove Albion man got off lucky after Tarkowski’s reckless tackle, and the pair making up at full-time is a good sign that no more bad blood will be created between the pair in future games.
Liverpool’s win tonight restored their lead at the top of the Premier League to 12 points, with eight games now remaining as the Reds took another big step to winning the English championship.
And with Arsenal winning this week against Fulham, Liverpool now just 13 points from their last right games to claim the Premier League title, a feat few fans would have predicted going into the season under Arne Slot.
The Dutch manager has been a revelation at Liverpool since succeeding Jurgen Klopp, and Slot will be desperate to win the Premier League as quickly as possible after firmly establishing himself as a new hero at Anfield.
