Virgil van Dijk’s future is once again in the headlines, with the Liverpool defender making waves last week after being spotted talking to PSG’s president.
Shortly after Liverpool’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League at Anfield, Van Dijk was seen with Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Luis Campos, fueling speculation that the defender could make the move to the French champions in the summer.
With Ronald Koeman commenting on Van Dijk’s contract situation at Liverpool, there’s a growing sense that the Dutch international could actually leave Merseyside at the end of this season, with MLS an appealing option for the centre-back.
Yet French football expert Julien Laurens has shed some light on if Van Dijk is a real target for PSG this summer.

Taking to Twitter, the journalist said there is no transfer interest from PSG in Van Dijk, with the defender only talking to the club president and sporting director about the game that had just played out at Anfield.
With Van Dijk wanted by Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, it isn’t too extraordinary to believe that PSG would be interested in signing the Liverpool captain, especially after speculation intensified after the defender was seen with two of the French side’s most important figures.
Yet in the words of Laurens, there is nothing between Van Dijk and PSG in terms of a potential transfer, with the defender’s encounter with Al-Khelaifi and Campos merely sporting and had nothing to do with a summer move.

Laurens posted: “There is nothing between PSG and Virgil Van Dijk.
No talks, no negotiations, no 100m signing on fee offer.
Virgil had a chat with Luis Campos and Nasser Al Khelaifi after the Champions League second leg and it wasn’t about his future but about the two games they played.”
Whilst Liverpool are confident Van Dijk will sign a new contract, the reality of the situation seems to be more murky than that, with the Dutch defender now just a few months away from becoming a free-agent, alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.
Indeed, Liverpool players are believed to be unsettled about Van Dijk’s contract situation, with the defender seemingly not close enough yet to signing a new deal despite having an offer on the table for some time.
With the Premier League season ending in six weeks, Van Dijk and Liverpool have work to do if the defender is to commit his future, and time is running dangerously low for all parties to reach an agreement.
