The 33 year old joined the Reds in January 2018 and has since won a glut of trophies including the Champions League and Premier League.
He is set to lead his club to a second Premier League crown, the first as the lead skipper, and according to Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano the new deal announcement is imminent.
He said: "All details of Virgil van Dijk’s new deal are agreed and documents have been approved by lawyers.
Next step: official statement."
Speaking ahead of Liverpool's clash against West Ham in Sunday, van Dijk wrote: “Sunday is an important one for Liverpool Football Club, both on and off the field.
"First and foremost, Anfield will pay tribute to the victims of Hillsborough, ahead of the 36th anniversary."
His programme notes added: “A mosaic will be displayed on the Kop prior to kick-off to remember the 97 fans who died as a result of the events that occurred at the FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989.
"There is a commemorative edition of the matchday programme and tributes will also be displayed on LED boards surrounding the pitch.
“I consider myself extremely blessed to be the captain of this football club, and on behalf of everybody at the club we want to honour the men, women and children who lost their lives, and to pay our respects to all those affected by what happened that day.
“You are in our thoughts, on this day and always.”
