Virgil van Dijk has spoken about the Trent Alexander-Arnold speculation that has reached a fever-pitch following the N0.66’s goal last on Sunday against Leicester City.
The 26-year-old’s contract situation at Anfield has become one of the most closely watched stories in world football, with the vice-captain’s future shrouded in uncertainty as his deal approaches its expiration this summer.
Despite scoring a decisive late winner against Leicester City on Sunday, Alexander-Arnold declined to comment on his future over the weekend – leading many to feel that he is Madrid-bound.
Speaking to reporters after the win at the King Power Stadium, the Liverpool captain urged the broader public to remember that Alexander-Arnold is still a human being at the end of the day:
“We forget that we are dealing with a human being,” said Van Dijk on Sunday as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
“Sometimes he goes through so many moments in the last couple of months and everyone will have an opinion on the way he’s obviously been.
“But for us as players, we want to win games and he’s been important throughout the whole season?
He’s been important for all those years that we have been together and there’s still games to go and then we to need to have the best Trent Alexander-Arnold and what happens in the future will happen, that’s life and football and we’ll see.”
