Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has dropped a subtle hint Trent Alexander-Arnold could yet stay at Anfield - saying nobody in the dressing room yet knows what is going to happen despite reports he is La Liga-bound.
It appears it would require a huge change of heart for the 26-year-old to remain a member of Arne Slot's side next season.
Although Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold are now on the cusp of lifting the Premier League title, the defender appears set to wave a teary goodbye to the Merseyside outfit against Crystal Palace on May 25.
The full focus was for him to get back to full fitness, be important for the remaining games of the season.
"And he showed today that he was so now it's on to the next.
But he's a Liverpool player at this point and he's important for our team.
"He has been important throughout the whole season and today again he came back from the injury, a long one, and that's what I'm happy about.
He's back in and amongst us, he's important today and we have still five more games after this.
"So hopefully he can be important for the rest of the games.
But for us as players, we want to win games and he's been important throughout the whole season.
"He's been important for all those years that we have been together and there's still games to go and then we to need to have the best Trent Alexander-Arnold and what I said, what happen in the future, what happen that's life and football and we'll see."
