An Arsenal fan theory emerged — and was quickly debunked — following Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Wednesday.
The Reds led, then trailed, then equalized, and ultimately emerged from Villa Park with a point to move eight points clear of the Gunners at the top of the table, albeit Mikel Arteta's men do have a game in hand.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in the first half but the Reds trailed by half-time after goals from Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins.
We tried everything and unfortunately it wasn't enough for three points.
"We should have scored 3-2, but credit to us, Aston Villa as well, they made it very difficult.
Do everything in your power to win games, the focus will be that on Sunday again."
Some Arsenal fans on social media claimed that the part of Van Dijk's interview where he said, "credit to us, Aston Villa as well", was actually the Dutchman beginning to say, "credit to Arsenal" before then correcting himself.
One Gunners fan account on social media platform X wrote: "Van Dijk almost says 'credit to Arsenal' instead of Aston Villa in his post match interview
Living in his head rent free."
Unsurprisingly, the replies were filled with other X users correcting the Arsenal fan, who was not willing to admit that they had got it wrong.

Sounded like he was about to say ‘credit it to us‘ but stopped mid way," while another said: "Bro you're reaching and I'm an Arsenal fan - he said 'listen credit to us.' They were 2-1 down in the game, then Trent equalised."
