A new theory has emerged around Virgil van Dijk's Liverpool contract after Mohamed Salah signed a new deal at Anfield.

Liverpool supporters have a new theory over a possible imminent contract extension for captain Virgil van Dijk - after the welcome announcement that Mohamed Salah has signed his new deal.

Although Trent Alexander-Arnold looks to be potentially moving on, amid interest from Real Madrid, reports indicate that Virgil van Dijk is closing in on a new agreement to extend his stay at Anfield.

Speaking after last week's Premier League defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage, the club's captain revealed that there had been progress over contract negotiations.

If a fresh theory on Van Dijk is right, then it could be even better.

The theory across social media and beyond lies in today's date; April 11 or 11/4.

Those numbers of the date coincide with the squad numbers of both Salah (11) and Van Dijk (4).

If the theory is correct, then a new contract for the captain could be announced on the same day as Salah.

But it could, of course, all be coincidence with supporters having to wait a bit longer for an announcement on Van Dijk.

Whatever happens for the rest of the day, though, both Salah and Van Dijk are expected to start for Liverpool as they take on West Ham.
