The Dutch skipper's contract is set to expire at the end of this season, sparking intense speculation about his next move.

Back in October, the 33-year-old disclosed that formal contract discussions with the club had commenced.

However, four months later, it appears there's been little progress towards a resolution.

Despite being free to sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs, Van Dijk has reaffirmed his loyalty to Liverpool.

"It's all about the next couple of months," he told former Liverpool captain Jamie Redknapp during an interview for Sky Sports.

I want to make sure that this team is successful and that's my main focus at the moment.

"I can't speak about personal conversations that have obviously been going on for a while.

I'm quite calm about it."

He recalled: "It's quite funny because I remember when Gini Wijnaldum was out of contract and in his last six months at the club, I said to him I couldn't believe how calm he was.
